Stand out online!

With technology playing a much larger part in our lives in all ways, have you ever stopped and though about how much you value your business’ online reputation? Online presence is much more important than it used to be and is key to setting your business apart from others working in your sector. Customers no longer expect to be sold to, either. Instead, they’re looking for a reason to choose your business; having a website can be a great way to showcase why yours is the business for them. This is where SEO and Online Reputation Management comes in. A strong internet presence and a positive online reputation can be achieved by maximising a number of different factors that an SEO campaign will incorporate. By meeting certain criteria established by authorities like Google, you can increase your chances on being seen online. Increased online visibility leads to more opportunities for your business as well as securing your organisation as a significant authority on the web in your specific business sector.

Social Media Marketing

Social media marketing is possibly the most dynamic way of reaching an audience on a vast scale with minimal budget. The majority of social media platforms are free to sign up, making them a cost effective way to kick-start your business on the web. Whether your business is very visual led and would benefit from platforms such as Instagram or Pinterest, or if your primary focus is to share knowledge and comment about your industry like Twitter, there’s every reason for a business to regularly assess their social strategy.  Investing time in social media is often the biggest ‘cost’ to businesses, but it’s one which can result in a very high return if done correctly.

A Quick Guide To Understanding SEO

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is our bread and butter here at Zebra Internet Services. We are the North East experts in delivering exceptional online reputation management campaigns for our clients, which involve a combination of search engine optimisation, social media marketing and PPC advertising. Day in and day out, we have meetings, calls and emails from existing and prospective clients, helping them understand why and what such services can do for their business. SEO itself is a minefield of data, which changes constantly, and it’s our job to keep up with it all so that you don’t have to! We’ve gathered a few of the most frequently asked questions from businesses who are considering SEO, which should help you get a bit of a taster…

  1. What does SEO mean?

SEO stands for search engine optimisation. It’s a process that involves improving a website presence so that it becomes more visible in search engines like Google, equating to more traffic and conversions from the site as a result.

Without SEO, your website may not be visible in Google when people search for terms or ‘keywords’ that relate to your products and services, meaning you could miss out on a big portion of your market. At Zebra, we co-ordinate ‘campaigns’ for our clients, creating a set of deliverables that enable a website to satisfy and comply with what a search engine is looking for, so they can ‘rank’ you in the organic search results accordingly.

  1. What does it involve?

Believe it or not, if you have the time and resources in house, you can optimise your website without having to enlist a third party agency like Zebra. SEO is simply about making your website as user-friendly as possible, and making sure you have a solid reputation and authority across the rest of the internet.

Things like improving the copy on your website, developing the meta data within the site’s CMS (the code that Google explores when they ‘crawl’ your website), making sure the website is easy to navigate, and having a regularly updated blog are all things that will instantly push you ahead when it comes to optimisation. That, coupled with marketing your content externally, building links with authoritative websites and suppliers is how you achieve success with SEO.

Of course, to do this properly, the biggest challenge businesses face is investing the time and energy into the delivery, which is where we step in. Measuring your results is crucial, and we have access to industry leading software that allows our clients to easily understand what’s changing with their web presence month on month.

  1. Can my website be top in search engine results overnight?

In a nutshell, no. SEO is about building an authority and relationship of trust with Google, and this is not an instant process. On average we believe it takes a website around three months to develop a sustainable presence, and even longer if you’re serious about becoming the best.

‘Quick hits’ are never really a viable option if you’re in business for the long term, but if you really need to be visible for a keyword instantly, there’s always PPC marketing (a whole other kettle of fish!).

  1. If I don’t have a mobile version of my site, does it affect my search engine ranking?

As of April 2015, yes. Google wants websites to be as user friendly and engaging as possible, and if you’re website isn’t mobile optimised, you will not be ranked well in mobile search results.

Forgetting Google for a second, do you really want to present a website that doesn’t work properly to your customers? If you were browsing the web on your tablet, and you visited a site that you couldn’t see properly or navigate easily around, would you buy from them? Think about your customers, that’s what Google’s doing.
